Preserving & protecting
the unique and vital landscape within the Great Marsh
Our Ethos
At Marshview Farm, our crops and offerings shift with the seasons — just like the tides of our local salt marshes—bringing you the freshest varietals the Great Marsh has to offer.
SPRING
Spring crops are vital for a successful farming season, as they provide early yields and set the stage for subsequent plantings. Key crops typically grown in spring include:
Lettuce
Varieties such as romaine and butterhead will be ready for harvest in mid-May.
Spinach
Fresh spinach will be available from early May, known for its tender leaves.
Radishes
Expected to mature by late April, our radishes are crisp and peppery.
Summer
Summer crops thrive in the warm, sunny months on Cape Ann and are crucial for maximizing yield in many gardens and farms. The staple summer veggies we grow at the farm include:
Tomatoes
We will begin planting a variety of heirloom tomatoes in late May, with expected harvests starting in July.
Cucumbers
These will be planted in early June, perfect for salads and pickling, ready for harvest by late July.
Peppers
Bell peppers and hot pepper varieties will be planted in June, providing vibrant colors and flavors by August.
Eggplant
Sun-loving and vibrant, these purple beauties thrive in the summer heat and brighten every harvest.
FALL
Fall crops are a crucial part of agriculture, providing a variety of options for harvest as the temperatures begin to cool. Some of the most popular fall crops include:
Brussels Sprouts
These small, leafy vegetables thrive in cooler temperatures, developing their sweet flavor after exposure to frost.
Kale
Known for its hardiness, kale can survive the frost and continues to grow until the ground freezes.
Carrots
They can be sown in early spring and left in the ground until late fall, developing better sweetness after frost.
Potatoes
Earthy and hearty, these spuds love cool soil and keep us stocked all winter long.
Onions
Planted early, harvested late — our onions are packed with flavor and keep through the cold
Our practices and techniques go beyond sustainability to actively improve and regenerate the health of the land.
With no use of chemicals and pesticides, we aim to increase biodiversity and build healthy, living soil by integrating animals to add organic matter through manure and rotating crops to promote polycultures.
Nestled within The protected wetlands of the great marsh
Marshview Farm was brought back to the land that had its roots and history in farming since the early 1700s. We are endeavoring to bring back that heritage with sustainable farming and husbandry to the benefit of our North Shore community and are proud to now be in our sixth CSA season.
